A 13-year-old girl in China has been rescued after a harrowing 15-month ordeal of being locked up in an attic and raped repeatedly.
The Shanghai Daily reported that the girl, known only as Minmin, was freed from her confinement of a 10-square-metre attic in her abductor’s house in Guangzhou in July but details of the case have just been released.
The 41-year-old man, Chen, has been detained by the police, according to Nanfang Daily.
He will be charged for abduction and rape.
Minmin, who is a school dropout, told the Chinese media that Chen had pretended to be a computer repairman and invited her to play computer games at his home.
She was living with her father before she was abducted. Her mother, who is a cancer patient, left home when Minmin was eight because she did not want to burden the family.
“He (Chen) didn’t have a decent job and always stayed at home. He would lock the door when he went out,” said Minmin.
Her father died last year after she was reported missing. Minmin is now living with her uncle.
She told the newspaper that she wants to go back to school but has a problem enrolling because her parents do not get a marriage license and did not register her residence.
